The meeting focused on further strengthening the strategic partnership between Uzbekistan and China at the regional level, expanding practical cooperation in tourism, as well as developing joint tourist routes and projects.

Particular attention was paid to Xinjiang’s experience in tourism destination management, investment attraction, development of transport and infrastructure networks, and enhancement of the tourism potential of historic cities while preserving their cultural heritage. The participation of the mayors of Samarkand, Bukhara, Khiva and Kokand in the delegation provided an important opportunity to study this experience and discuss possibilities for applying relevant practices in Uzbekistan.

The parties also noted the dynamic growth of tourist exchanges between the two countries. In particular, the introduction of a mutual 30-day visa-free regime effective from June 1, 2025, has created new opportunities to increase tourist flows. The number of Chinese tourists visiting Uzbekistan increased from 74,900 in 2024 to 278,900 in 2025, while 269,700 Chinese tourists visited Uzbekistan in January–July 2026.

As part of the visit, the Chairman of the Tourism Committee also familiarized himself with the activities of the Xinjiang Ancient Ecological Park in Urumqi. Established by Yema Group, the 13-hectare complex combines environmental conservation, cultural exhibitions, scientific and educational activities, and tourism. The park showcases the natural and cultural heritage of the Great Silk Road and houses a collection of around 1,000 fossilized tree remains, as well as four horse-racing tracks and modern equestrian sports facilities.

During the visit, particular attention was paid to the experience of developing ecological and cultural tourism and transforming natural and historical heritage sites into modern tourism products. In particular, the parties highlighted opportunities to promote the historical and cultural ties between Uzbekistan and China dating back to the Great Silk Road through the history of the ancient Ferghana horses, as well as to develop joint tourism products combining elements of equestrian sports and ethnotourism.
